Since being laid of early this year (January '09 to be exact) I've been really trying to make it on my own. Avoiding the "cube" ... instead of gleaming it. Ok... bad old Christian Slater movie reference. But, BOY did I think he was HOT in that movie. I bet if I went back and watched it again, I might throw up a little in my mouth...
Anyhoo... Avoiding the cube. Back the the main point of this blog.
For all my working days, working for other people, I've felt stifled. Never feeling like I quite fit in with the lot of them, because well, it's not common for others to skip and sing through the halls... but for me? Yeah. I do that. And such behavior is not always welcome... particularly in stuffy engineering firm halls.
So, once laid off, I said to myself, I said, "Self... you've got creativity, talent and supplies to make this happen all on your own. So, let's go for it!"
The problem with this revelation is that now I need OTHERS to see what I got and that what I got is GOOD and now my mission is to make them, YOU, aware of what I have to offer and why I'm different than the rest.
I offer handmade goods. Of course, I'm not the only one. What I can tell you is that, not taking away from what others do, my handmade goods are my "babies." I spend probably too much time making each piece because it's important to me they're made well and look as perfect as can be.
When selecting my supplies, I only buy artificial flowers that are made from quality materials that are soft or appealing in someway to the touch. If under any circumstance they're not soft and appealing, I've bought them because I'm desperate for a specific color. For example, it's VERY difficult to find quality black and blue flowers... thought you should know.
I've rambled plenty on the subject, but in closing I'm setting a small goal.
My small goal is as follows:
I would like to sell one, only ONE, flower every hour from 9 to 5 from Monday through Friday. That's IT! That's only 40 flowers a week. I am not trying to get rich, my only goal is to support my two children and ... AVOID THE CUBE!
You can find my FABULOUS products at DOLLFACE DAMES.
That is all. And if you've made it this far, THANK YOU for reading!
